Dan started his career in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1983 which was followed by sailing as Master and Mate in the Alaska coastal freight trade. In 1997 Dan joined Clean Sound Cooperative as Captain of the Oil Spill Recovery Vessel WESTERN GULL. As a response manager for MSRC Dan participated in numerous responses including New Carissa, Cosco Busan, and Deepwater Horizon. Dan is an expert at exercise design and facilitation. He has been the lead designer of worst-case tabletop exercised in the United States, Canada, Brazil, United Kingdom, and the Netherlands. Additionally, Dan is an Incident Commander with the Washington State Maritime Cooperative.
